VINCE LOMBARDI QUOTE

Bosses Shouldn’t Throw The Ball:

Can you tell who the quarterback is in this photo?  I sure can’t.

Does it even matter?

What matters is that the guy with the ball is moving forward.  That means everyone is working together to get the job done.

There’s someone else missing in this photo who is even more elusive than the quarterback…the coach.

Where is he when the blocks start coming?  Where is he when the ball is thrown?

Truth be told, when it comes to football, we don’t even expect to see the coach blocking, tackling, or throwing.  But why?

BITTERNESS IS THE SWORD IN YOUR HEART

It’s difficult to have authority over people.  There are so many things to consider: inspiration, motivation, results, feelings, safety, etc.  No wonder bosses screw it up so bad.  No wonder, they get paid more.

Even the bosses I’ve appreciated the most, have made some pretty big mistakes.  It would be easy for me to hold it against them…and I have.

What I’ve found though is that holding that in, is a zero sum game.

CHRIS GARDNER PRESENTATION

Motivational speeches get a pretty bad rap.  Many people wouldn’t even admit to enjoying them, let alone being truly impacted by an event.  Personally, I believe motivational speeches can be very influential throughout the course of one’s life, especially if the presenter has heart, passion, and skill.

Last week I had the pleasure of witnessing one of the most memorable motivational speeches of my life.  The presenter’s name was Christopher Gardner.  If you aren’t sure who that is, check out the trailer below for the movie, “The Pursuit of Happyness”, starring Will & Jaden Smith:

PERFORMANCE REVIEWS

The phrase “performance review” doesn’t include any four letter words, but most people’s reaction to hearing it makes you think it does.  Why?  Because they are often painful.  Whether you are the reviewer or the reviewee.  The process just plain stings!

Some leaders will even go as far as to say that reviews aren’t even necessary.  That they are a waste of time.  Personally, I believe that they are necessary, but are unfortunately flawed in many cases. Here’s some examples of what I’ve witnessed:

GOAL SETTING

Your goals are holding you back!  You probably haven’t heard that before, right?  I say this because for many, including myself at the moment, our goals are not set in stone.  They are not clear and visible and most importantly achievable.  It’s so easy to have a foggy set of goals.  You know, ones that are NOT laser focused and NOT burned into your mind.

Bad jobs stink!  Whether it’s a bad boss, a bad culture, or you are literally shoveling something that smells.  If you are stuck doing something that you hate, it’s tough to spin that any other way.  Whatever the situation though, you might as well make the best of it.  Here’s how…

Max Lucado Quote

MAX LUCADO QUOTE

I just had to comment on this quote & image this morning.  It’s a very rich and deep thing that Max Lucado is talking about here.  Humility, courage, vision, and discipline are all at play.  But if you want to do something great, you must break new ground.  You must dream and you must execute without worrying about what is normal or popular.

This is never easy and is often lonely.  I would like to encourage you this morning to:

Dream big.

Stand strong.

Turn away from the crowd.

Make something beautiful.

Good luck and God bless!

Customer Service

Great customer service isn’t always as common as we’d like.  As a matter of fact, it’s fairly uncommon.  If that’s true, then why don’t more businesses use great customer service to insure their success?

Let’s start by taking a look at the image above.  How does it make you feel?  Maybe it’s no big deal to you.  It’s a nice looking sign.  Someone spent some time having it made.  Pretty innocent, right?

Wrong!
