Lost Battle – Lessons From The Culture Revolution

Revolutions require “battles”; there’s no way around it.  Fortunately, the battles I’m talk about don’t require explosions, gunfire, or real blood to be shed.  However, metaphorically, culture battles can still be painful and can leave warriors wounded & disadvantaged.

This week I made a really tough decision.  For any of you that follow my facebook page, you know that I’ve been planning to host a leadership event here locally in May.  Unfortunately, I’ve decided to cancel that event. 🙁

“Why”, you ask?  Good question…

I guess there are several reasons, but the most important one is simple…a lack of interest.

It pains me to say that.  Of course, it’s also hard for me not to blame myself.  Could I have marketed it better?  Could I have worked harder?  Would a lower price have made a difference?  The list goes on…

It’s important to ask these kinds of questions.  In any battle (or business), learning from mistakes is vital to ultimate success.

Your pain is the breaking of the shell that encloses your understanding.”  -Khalil Gibran

However, it’s also important to move forward.  Do I let this loss be the battle that ends the war?

The answer to that is an emphatic NO!

I still believe with all my heart that people all over the country (and in my community) are hungry for better leadership!  I also still believe that they thirst for work visions that truly engage them!

So, this loss WILL NOT stop my mission.  Although, it may change my strategy and certainly my tactics.

It may even take me some time to lick my wounds…to heal…to patch my pride.  But it’s not all dark and sad.  I’m alive.  I’m employed.  I’m loved.  I’m blessed beyond what I deserve, without a doubt!

So, I’ll end this by looking to the future.  Here’s what I will be doing with my new found “spare time”:

  • Pour energy into the Corporate Culture Revolution Podcast (more on that soon)
  • Create new & practical tools for bosses and employees to use in the workplace
  • Finish my new ebook, “Become A Culture Ninja In Any Position” (Title under construction)
  • Plan a better, new local leadership event

So, stay with me here because this revolution is about to get the kick it deserves!!

Question: What culture battles have you lost?  How did you recover?
